The first sentence of the headline is encouraging. The idea that things can only work out if we get Democrats to adopt popular positions is not.

I'm not buyin' it. By "it" I mean the ragebait framing by this article. Yeah, a lot of tech people gave money to Mamdani, so what? "Party insiders" aren't divided, there's just a lot of money in "thinktanks" who are funded by tech bros. Ignore those

Once again Democrats are paralyzed on an issue, this time #AI, because they have no courage and no vision to take a stand. They just want to be as cautious as possible so they can chase big donors and polling

“We’re really headed towards a point in which it feels like we will all be struggling, except for 12 billionaires hiding out in a wine cave somewhere.” - Morris Katz, political strategist.
Politico just realized how much we hate AI.

I mean this quite earnestly. When Lakshya Jain and I agree on a strategy for Democrats to take, the public opinion on the thing must be absolutely overwhelming. www.politico.com/news/magazin...

They already have a win-win worked out. The GOP will suggest we convert you into some kind of combustable slurry to power the data centers. The Democrats will ask you for $5 so they can win that last senate seat they need to stop the GOP plan, after accounting for the six Dems who voted for it.

"Pew, meanwhile, ran a study that showed only 17 percent of Americans think AI will have a positive impact on the U.S. over the next 20 years. Even congressional Democrats, at a record low 18 percent approval, beat that out, according to Quinnipiac."
Brilliant. No notes.

At this point, there it’s worth thinking of AI and oligarchy as the same issue.

I dislike this framing in @politico.com because it assumes either a pro-tech or anti-tech stance. There’s a distinction between owners of big giant tech companies & people who actually make software and some of the loudest critics fall into the latter group.
